Chelsea will be looking to close at least one more deal before the summer transfer window temporarily closes at 7pm on Tuesday.
The unprecedented version of the window has opened early in order for clubs competing in the Club World Cup to get business done before jetting off to the United States.
Chelsea are one of these, and have already completed the signing of Liam Delap to bolster their fire power for a competition they are taking very seriously.
It has been reported that the Blues are working hard to complete more signings before Tuesday evening though, with one of them standing out as one they absolutely have to complete in time.
Chelsea must complete Mike Maignan deal before Tuesday’s deadline
Mike Maignan has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea sensing an opportunity to sign a top-class player whose contract is nearing its end.
The Frenchman is very keen on moving to the club, and Maignan has even threatened to run down his contract if he is not granted the switch.
Chelsea were predicted to announce the signing on Monday, however that has clearly not happened and now they are in a race against time to secure him in time for the Club World Cup.
Milan wanted £25m for Maignan (Di Marzio), however the Blues are not wiling to reach that figure as things sound.
If the deal isn’t done, it is believed the club will look to push on with the options they already have, however this could cause problems for the manager going into the new season.
Maignan sorts Chelsea’s biggest issue
Enzo Maresca reportedly wants a new goalkeeper despite defending his shot stoppers throughout the campaign as they made numerous big mistakes.
Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen did not do the job, and even though Djordje Petrovic enjoyed a sensational loan spell at Strasbourg he seems to not be under consideration for the number one shirt.
Maignan would not only bring a top-level goalkeeper into the first team squad, but would also provide a level of big-game experience that the youngest squad in Premier League history does not boast.
With Chelsea set for Champions League action again next season, they must do whatever it takes to sign Maignan before 7pm on Tuesday.
