One of the most intriguing transfer sagas so far this summer has been around Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens and his potential move to Chelsea.
At the moment, Jamie Gittens is still a Borussia Dortmund player. He even came off the bench on Tuesday during a Club World Cup fixture against Fluminense.
However, the 20-year-old Bundesliga winger has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea.
Chelsea wanted Gittens in their Club World Cup squad, but they ran out of time to agree a deal in the first window of the summer. He does continue to be at the heart of transfer rumours, though.
Chelsea expected to make third bid for Jamie Gittens, asking price shared
According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea continue to prioritise a move to sign Dortmund’s Gittens after failing with two previous bids in June.
It is explained that the Blues were unsuccessful with offers of £30m and £42m for the English attacker. Even though Dortmund are prepared to sell him, the twist is they want around €55m (£47m) in total.
The report says that Chelsea are expected to make a third offer as discussions continue.
In addition, journalist Fabrizio Romano reports via X that Chelsea are set to make a new bid for Gittens.
Gittens only wants to join Chelsea after agreeing a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge, but it’s now down to the clubs involved to actually reach an agreement.
Blues striker Liam Delap previously played alongside Gittens in Manchester City’s academy, so could they now be reunited in West London next season?
Noni Madueke doesn’t enjoy playing on the left
If you examine Chelsea’s current squad, the left wing spot is one area they desperately need a new reinforcement to help out. It’s why we do have some confidence that Gittens will eventually join from Dortmund.
Even though Noni Madueke has covered as a left-winger in recent months, he looks far more comfortable on the opposite flank, where he can cut infield on his stronger left foot.
It’s been reported that Madueke doesn’t really enjoy playing on the left wing because the majority of his career has been spent on the other side.
The addition of Gittens, or a different left-winger, feels vital for the Blues this summer.
