The transfer rumours are intensifying regarding Chelsea’s potential interest in signing Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike.
It looks like the Blues are working hard to improve their squad this summer, especially in the forward positions.
Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is set to sign a six-year deal at Chelsea, and the 22-year-old’s transfer move is expected to be confirmed imminently.
In addition, Hugo Ekitike, 22, is strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have broadly agreed personal terms with Ekitike, who is valued at around £80m by German club Frankfurt. Apparently, Chelsea are accelerating their efforts to sign Ekitike as they look to bring the rapid centre-forward to the Premier League for the first time in his career.
Hugo Ekitike is pushing to join Chelsea
The latest update in the Ekitike transfer saga is good news for Blues supporters.
Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed via Substack that Frankfurt forward Ekitike is ‘very keen’ to join Chelsea and is pushing for a transfer through his agents.
It is explained that they are working on dropping the valuation set by Frankfurt, with insiders believing this will eventually come down.
Phillips adds that sources he’s spoken to feel Chelsea can get this transfer deal wrapped up, but there are still negotiations that need to be sorted for it to happen.
Ekitike has been compared to Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and is definitely one of the world’s most exciting rising stars. If he comes to West London, he will add even more potential and firepower to Chelsea’s young squad of players.
Hugo Ekitike can improve in key area
If Ekitike sharpens up his finishing, he could become a forward that scores a ridiculous amount of goals.
The young Frenchman did superbly well to score 22 goals across all competitions last season, including 15 Bundesliga league goals. However, he’s still got plenty of room to improve as a finisher.
FOTMOB data records that Ekitike missed 16 big chances in the Bundesliga last season, and he had a shot conversion rate of 12.8%. For context, FOTMOB data shares that Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson missed 19 big chances in the Premier League last season, recording a 13.2% shot conversion rate.
Chelsea created a lot of chances under Enzo Maresca last season, so they badly need someone in attack to convert more regularly.
