Chelsea are set for more talks this week with Victor Osimhen’s representatives about the striker possibly moving to Stamford Bridge, but there’s currently one major obstacle standing in the way.

Victor Osimhen, 26, is one of the high-profile strikers linked with a potential move to Chelsea this summer.

The superstar centre-forward has scored 33 goals in 38 games during a season-long loan at Galatasaray this year. Apparently, parent club Napoli will sell Victor Osimhen to the highest bidder, and his release clause to foreign clubs is around £62m.

Chelsea have planned to sign Victor Osimhen in 2025 once his Galatasaray loan expires. Without a doubt, the Blues need some extra firepower at the top end of the pitch.

His CV is very impressive after success at several clubs already, but will he end up in the Premier League for the first time in his career?

Victor Osimhen’s wages are holding up Chelsea move

According to FootballTransfers, Chelsea will hold ‘crunch talks’ with Osimhen’s representatives this week.

It is explained that the Blues are trying to find a compromise over the players’ huge wage demands. Apparently, the Nigeria international wants €12m-a-year, which equates to roughly £192k-a-week.

The report adds that Osimhen is ‘almost guaranteed’ to be sold by Napoli at the end of the season as several clubs chase his signature.

FootballTransfers claims that Osimhen wants to join Chelsea and they want to sign him, but the only major stumbling block preventing the transfer is the salary demands. The Blues are looking at ways to structure a deal that aligns with their internal wage framework.

Claude Makelele wants Victor Osimhen at Chelsea because he’s confident he’ll be a perfect fit.

The Blues supporters are still waiting for an individual to fill the void left behind by the likes of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba in the striker position. We’re quietly optimistic that Osimhen could do just that if a transfer can be sorted.

Victor Osimhen vs Nicolas Jackson

Nicolas Jackson, 23, has had two seasons now as Chelsea’s first-choice striker. While he’s shown he’s good enough for the Blues squad, it’s pretty obvious that he needs some extra help in the No 9 position because he’s not the finished article and goes through dry patches in front of goal.

Here is a look at how Jackson and Osimhen compare this season.

On paper, Osimhen would be an upgrade in Chelsea’s forward line going into next year. We actually think him and Jackson could dovetail really effectively, though.

If the Blues want to take the next step as a team, it’s crucial they add a striker like Osimhen who guarantees you 20 goals per season.
