Chelsea have been really active in the first transfer window of the summer, completing the signings of Liam Delap and Mamadou Sarr.

Delap has joined from Ipswich Town, while Sarr has arrived from Chelsea‘s sister club Strasbourg.

Chelsea have held discussions to sign Mike Maignan and Jamie Gittens as well, with the Blues really trying to take advantage of this special transfer window.

It closes on Tuesday, but the club seemingly have plans for when the market opens again later this month.

Chelsea could make move for Jorrel Hato after Club World Cup

Ajax defender Jorrel Hato is one player Chelsea could sign in the next transfer window as they try to strengthen their backline.

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea are lining up a move for Hato later this summer, after the Club World Cup.

The outlet claims that the 19-year-old is available for around €50m (£42m), which is not a lot of money in this day and age.

However, it is thought that Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United are also interested in Hato, so Chelsea will not get a free run at the Dutchman.

Chelsea prefer Hato over Jarrad Branthwaite, who has a much higher price tag than the Netherlands international. It is being reported that it could take £75m to sign Branthwaite.

Why Jorrel Hato could eventually become a top target for Enzo Maresca

Chelsea are not exactly light in the centre-back positions. As well as Sarr, they have Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi all on their books.

Hato, though, is not just a central defender. He can also play at left-back. In fact, it was where he was mostly used last season.

Considering that, Hato could soon find himself as a key target for Enzo Maresca. After loaning out Renato Veiga and Ben Chilwell to Juventus and Crystal Palace respectively, Chelsea finished the campaign with just one recognised left-back in their squad.

Maresca will not want a repeat of that, so if Veiga and Chilwell depart again, then signing Hato may need to become a priority. Veiga is already being linked to Marseille.
