A body covered in blood has been found near a popular waterhole in Sydney’s south-west.
Emergency services were called to bushland near the Georges River off Woolwash Drive in Airds about 5pm on Tuesday.
A crime scene has been established at the site. The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed.
Authorities were seen driving four-wheel-drive vehicles along a trail road to access the deceased’s location.
Trails lead from the quiet suburban street to the Woolwash – a secluded stretch of bush along the Georges River known for its rugged trails, steep gorge and hiking trails.
A sign beside the road warns visitors the water quality is not suitable for swimming.
Airds is a predominantly residential suburb of Campbelltown, roughly 45 minutes by car from Sydney’s CBD.
It has a relatively high crime rate and is predominantly made up of social housing.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
NSW Police has been contacted for comment.
