Chelsea are pushing hard to make at least one more big signing before the transfer window temporarily slams shut this summer.

The unprecedented edition of the window exists because of the Club World Cup, allowing sides to register new players in time to take part in the tournament.

Chelsea have already taken this opportunity to bolster their firepower with the signing of Liam Delap, and are currently pushing to bring in one of his former youth teammates.

Jamie Gittens has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge after making the decision to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Chelsea have made a competitive bid for Gittens, and could even be bolstered in their efforts to sign him if Jadon Sancho moves to Dortmund himself.

Chelsea could move for Alejandro Garnacho if Jamie Gittens isn’t signed before Club World Cup

However, this is certainly a deal the Blues are pushing to do before the 7pm deadline on Tuesday, and it remains to be seen if they will look to other options instead when it opens again in a week’s time.

According to Fabrizio Romano, speaking to DAZN, Chelsea remain firmly interested in Alejandro Garnacho, and could return to that table if Gittens does not sign on Tuesday.

He said: “It’s a possibility, because as we say Garnacho will leave Manchester United, he will go, that’s for sure. I keep receiving information that Garnacho’s priority is to stay in the Premier League.

“I give a 35% chance of this today, because for the Club World Cup I don’t see this happen, the priority is Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, but Garnacho remains a player appreciated by Chelsea.”

Chelsea were pushing hard to complete this signing in January, with it being reported that Enzo Maresca was a fan of signing Garnacho in a window where they didn’t actually spend any money.

With United now also having to sort out the future of Jadon Sancho in that position, they could be willing to accept a lower fee than they were in the winter window.

Garnacho vs Gittens 24/25 stats

As far as the numbers go, Garnacho provided slightly more goal involvements last season, however from 10 more games than Gittens in all competitions.

Garnacho vs Gittens 24/25 stats Alejandro Garnacho Jamie Gittens
Games 58 48
Goals 11 12
Assists 10 5

Maresca is looking for a wide man who can contribute regularly for the Blues, after Sancho, Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto’s numbers were not as impressive as they could have been last season.

Gittens could rekindle the relationship with Delap which was only seen once during their time together at City, although it was devastating in the only game they played together against Liverpool.

Chelsea will no doubt be working hard up until the 7pm deadline to finalise the move for the Englishman so he can represent them at the Club World Cup in the United States.
