Chelsea are keen to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan this summer and are willing to offer players in exchange for the Frenchman.

Chelsea still have Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen and Djordje Petrovic on their books, but they still want to bring in another shot-stopper.

And their interest is not one-sided either, with Maignan thought to be more than open to moving to Stamford Bridge.

During the week, it was reported that Maignan is interested in a transfer to Chelsea as his contract at Milan continues to run down.

Chelsea offered Kepa Arrizabalaga in swap deal for Mike Maignan

One player Chelsea seem happy to send to Milan in their bid to land Maignan is Kepa Arrizabalaga, another goalkeeper who is still at the club.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Blues have offered Kepa and Petrovic to the Serie A outfit in a potential swap deal for Maignan.

However, Chelsea have been unsuccessful, with Milan unwilling to budge on their asking price as things stand.

Milan only want a £25m fee for Maignan, but with the 29-year-old having entered the final 12 months of his contract, Chelsea do not want to pay that.

Kepa is still likely to leave west London as he continues to be linked with a switch to Arsenal. Chelsea paid £71m for the Spaniard in 2018, making him one of the most expensive ever signings in the club’s history.

How Kepa Arrizabalaga and Mike Maignan compare

Given the predicament that Milan are currently in, taking Kepa and allowing Maignan to join Chelsea does not sound like the worst deal. At this rate, they are going to lose their No.1 for nothing next summer.

Last season, Kepa actually recorded a higher save percentage than Maignan, though the France international came out on top in a lot of other areas.

Player League games Goals against Goals against per 90 Save percentage Clean sheets Clean sheet percentage Pass completion
Kepa 31 39 1.26 73.9% 8 25.8% 73.2%
Mike Maignan 37 41 1.12 70.6% 12 32.4% 86.2%

Whatever the case, it does not look like Milan are interested in either Kepa or Petrovic. If Chelsea are going to sign Maignan for the 2025/26 season, then they are probably going to have to meet Milan’s demands.
