Chelsea have not been afraid to bring in big-money players in the time that their new owners have been in charge of the club.

The Blues have twice smashed their record fee since Todd Boehly was in charge, signing Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo in consecutive transfer windows.

There has also been the ambition to sign a number of the world’s most talented young players, utilising sister club Strasbourg to get the best out of them and prepare them for top-level football.

Chelsea set to break Polish league’s transfer record and sign Bright Ede

In their quest to continue to find young talents in this summer transfer window, the Blues have stumbled across 18-year-old defender Bright Ede, currently playing for Motor Lublin.

According to Meczyki, Chelsea are ‘one step away’ from closing a deal to sign the defender for a fee of around £9.5m.

If this is the case, Ede will become the most expensive player sold by a Polish side, topping the amount paid for Jakub Moder.

The report goes on to say that the deal is being done with an intention of sending him to Strasbourg to replace Mamadou Sarr, who is currently with the first team Chelsea squad at the Club World Cup.

Who is Bright Ede?

Despite looking set to be the most expensive sale ever from the Polish league, Ede is not experienced at first-team level.

The defender has made just six first team appearances for Motor Lublin, however Chelsea have clearly seen something they have been excited by.

The teenager stands at 1.93m tall, and can play on either side of the centre-back position, but is predominantly left footed.

With Strasbourg in line to play Conference League football next season, there is a great opportunity for those young players to develop their game against top teams, as they push to keep the trophy under the BlueCo banner for a second consecutive season.
