Chelsea have been considering making a move this week to sign a new striker.

With the summer window rapidly approaching, the transfer speculation is intensifying regarding Chelsea and a potential move to sign a centre-forward.

It’s been claimed that a big part of Chelsea’s transfer plan for the summer includes recruiting a new No 9.

The fact that the Blues have very little in reserve behind Nicolas Jackson to lead the line makes it a no-brainer that they spend big on a new frontman.

Chelsea considering Jonathan David approach

Lille’s Jonathan David, 25, is one of the high-profile strikers who will be on the move this summer.

The Canada international confirmed via Instagram this week that he’ll be leaving Lille at the end of the season once his contract expires.

Journalist Simon Phillips reports via Substack that Chelsea have been considering approaching the agents of David to snap him up on a free transfer.

Apparently, Napoli are already speaking to the 25-year-old attacker as they look to get a contract signed this week. In addition, unnamed Premier League sides are pushing hard and speaking with the player.

Phillips adds that it’s unclear whether Chelsea will join the transfer race by submitting an offer, but it’s something they’ve been weighing up this week.

Back in January, it was reported that Chelsea admired Jonathan David, who’s decided to finish his Lille contract and leave for nothing in the summer.

Jonathan David would be an incredible signing for any club

If you look at the season David has enjoyed in Lille colours, it’s quite remarkable that he’s available on a free transfer this summer.

Competition Appearances Goals Assists
Ligue 1 31 16 5
Champions League 10 7 2
Champions League qualifying 4 2 2
French Cup 3 0 3

Canadian football expert Tony Marinaro called David “one of the best” strikers in the world a few years ago.

If you skip to the present day, David has built an incredible CV, scoring 109 goals in 231 Lille appearances. It’s really no surprise that Napoli and Premier League clubs are already battling for his signature.
