Cole Palmer has admitted that he doesn’t go near his “amazing” Chelsea teammate in training sessions.
As Chelsea enter the business end of the season, Cole Palmer is the one player in the squad that every supporter is looking towards for inspiration.
Even though it’s been a quieter second half of the campaign for him, the 23-year-old attacking midfielder may be the most likely Blues star to produce a big moment in the final few matches.
Enzo Maresca’s side have two games left in the Premier League to secure their Champions League qualification, starting with Manchester United at home on Friday night. At the end of May, Chelsea then face Real Betis in the Conference League final.
During a recent interview, Liam Delap called Cole Palmer one of the world’s best. Well, it’s during the biggest occasions when the elite players turn up, so we’re optimistic we’ll see something special in the next couple of weeks.
Cole Palmer stays away from Moises Caicedo in training
Chelsea star Palmer has highlighted the brilliance of teammate Moises Caicedo, 23, in central midfield. On top of that, he admitted that he stays away from him in training sessions.
During an interview with Sky Sports Premier League, Palmer was asked what it’s like playing alongside Caicedo. He said: “Yeah, amazing. The way he just wins the ball back. When you think he can’t get the ball, and he does. He’s non-stop. He’s always there. He’s been amazing this season.”
Afterwards, when asked if Caicedo is difficult to come up against in training, Palmer responded: “I don’t go near him, to be honest. Obviously I played against him in training, but I just avoid that one. Not avoid it, but when he’s near me, I’ll say, Moi, chill today.”
It’s been claimed that Cole Palmer is the best trainer at Chelsea on a day-to-day basis. However, it’s perhaps a smart move not to get too close to his tough-tackling teammate at Cobham.
If Caicedo trains anything like he plays on a matchday, we suspect he’s avoided by most of his Blues colleagues.
The all-action defensive midfielder has been outstanding for Enzo Maresca’s side this campaign. Unsurprisingly, he swept up the individual accolades at the club’s end-of-season awards.
Moises Caicedo second in Europe behind Pedri in key statistic
If there’s one thing that Caicedo does as well as anyone, it’s dispossessing opponents.
The Chelsea midfielder ranks second across Europe’s top five leagues this season, behind Barcelona’s Pedri, when it comes to winning back possession.
Moises Caicedo was inspired by N’Golo Kante as a youngster, and we do notice shades of the Chelsea legend’s game in the current Blues star.
There has been a lot of debate recently about Caicedo playing at right-back in some recent games. Based on what we’ve seen, he’s got to be in the centre of the park, where he’s at his destructive best.
