Tony Cascarino thinks one area of Chelsea’s squad can rival any team in the Premier League.

Chelsea could end up missing out on a place in the top five this season. They are currently fifth in the Premier League table, but Nottingham Forest can overtake them if they draw their game in hand.

Opta’s supercomputer has already predicted Chelsea to fall short in the race for Champions League qualification.

With all of that being said, after plenty of investment, the Blues still have an amazing squad.

Tony Cascarino in love with Chelsea’s midfield

Assessing Chelsea’s squad, midfield may be its strongest area. Enzo Maresca can call upon the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia.

Lavia recently spoke about Chelsea’s midfield, stating that he, Caicedo and Fernandez all bring different qualities to the team.

It is a midfield that Cascarino is a huge fan of, with the ex-Blues striker claiming that it is now one of the best in the Premier League.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cascarino said: “I love their midfield. I think their midfield is now one of the best ones in the Premier League. I think they’ve got huge energy in there. Caicedo’s playing really well for Chelsea now.

“When they paid one hundred million for him, he really did struggle in his first sort of initial three, six months. I think he’s now really back on the top of his game.”

Liverpool won the Premier League title on Sunday after thrashing Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at home, and it is fair to say that their midfield is not bad either.

Arne Slot has players such as Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister starting in the middle for him, but it looks like Cascarino believes Chelsea’s engine room can go toe-to-toe with the Reds’. Supporters will get to find out when Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Moises Caicedo attracting interest

Caicedo, who is arguably Chelsea’s best midfielder, has caught the attention of one club following his impact this season.

Earlier this month, it was claimed that Caicedo is a “dream target” for Al-Nassr. The Saudi Pro League club are in a position where they can afford to offer huge money for the 23-year-old, but the Blues would be silly to accept any bids for him this summer.

It is going to be almost impossible to find a midfielder who is as good at winning the ball back as Caicedo is. There is a reason why Chelsea had to pay so much money to get him out of Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023.
