One of Chelsea’s most promising talents has just made his first appearance of this summer’s U21 European Championship.

Geovany Quenda is set to join Chelsea in the summer of 2026 after the Blues agreed a deal earlier this season to bring him in from Sporting Lisbon.

Chelsea want Quenda to be a first team star as soon as he joins, and he is currently getting big game experience under his belt for Portugal’s U21s.

They were held to a 0-0 draw with France, however were the dominant team for much of the outing as the 18-year-old started the game on the right of attack.

Despite playing multiple years above his age, A Bola were full of praise for Quenda for his performance, stating he gave the French defence a real tough time.

They said: “Fast and virtuous, as is his nature, he gave the opposition defence a run for its money in the first half. The Sporting winger created some good moves on the right and also tried to score, with a header, but the ball went slightly over the bar (18′).”

Chelsea have been praised for signing Quenda, with a number of top clubs interested in his signature. Many expected him to eventually follow Ruben Amorim from Sporting to Manchester United before the Blues got the deal done.

It is believed Chelsea’s ambition to play the player further up the pitch was key, which is where he lined up for his country on Wednesday night.

Portugal believe Quenda is a ‘generational’ talent

With Chelsea fans extremely excited over the incoming debut of Estevao Willian next season, it will perhaps go under the radar to some that the conveyor belt of elite talent continues to churn out quality players.

Portuguese journalist Mariana Fernandes has claimed that the youngster is seen as ‘generational’ in his home country.

“He is a generational talent. Here in Portugal, there is a common theme with Sporting fans, Benfica fans, Porto fans, all the football fans, that we are not going to get a lot of Geovany Quendas every year. He is a once-in-a-generation kind of talent.”

Portugal will need to make sure they can get a result against either Poland or Georgia in order to get out of the group stages. They will be relying on Quenda to help get them there.
