Chelsea are looking to address the goalkeeper position this summer, with AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan cropping up at the top of their shortlist.

Chelsea have been long-term fans of Maignan, however are now sensing the opportunity to bring him in as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract at the San Siro.

Blues supporters are very excited by Maignan links, with them spending the season not content with the options of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.

Milan are asking for £25m to sell their goalkeeper, however the Blues are currently falling way short of this valuation for the 29-year-old.

Chelsea have direct meeting with AC Milan over Mike Maignan deal

However, the deal is far from dead, and the club are set to take the next step towards getting the move done by meeting directly with the Serie A side.

Journalist Danielle Longo has claimed that the two clubs are having direct talks on Thursday to see if a conclusion can be reached to this ongoing transfer saga.

He said: “A direct contact between Milan and Chelsea is expected tomorrow to start talking about Maignan.”

The Frenchman would bring some much needed experience to the backline at Stamford Bridge. He has already played a lot of games in big European settings, as the Blues prepare for their own return to the Champions League.

Maignan signing could push Chelsea to sell goalkeeper

The Blues currently have four options going into the new season to start between the sticks, with Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders having the chance to prove themselves in the upcoming Club World Cup.

Despite his really impressive campaign for Strasbourg, there are reports that Petrovic could still be sold after it seemed clear he wasn’t Enzo Maresca’s first choice for the previous season.

Last season’s duo are anything but secure in their Stamford Bridge futures either. It was reported Sanchez was offered to West Ham as one of a number of Chelsea players for a potential swap deal for Mohammed Kudus.

It looks as if Chelsea would like to strengthen their options in goal, however only at a price they deem suitable for their project, meaning some negotiating is going to need to be done between the two clubs.
