Chelsea are back into fourth spot after a crucial win at home to Tottenham on Thursday night.

The Blues picked up an important three points in the Premier League by edging out rivals Spurs by a 1-0 scoreline at Stamford Bridge.

Another derby win for Chelsea, their fourth in a row over Spurs, means they remain firmly in the picture for Champions League qualification.

Enzo Fernandez, 24, was the Chelsea match-winner on Thursday evening after his headed goal early in the second half. It takes the Argentine’s tally up to six goals across all competitions so far this season.

On top of his goal, Jason Cundy thought Fernandez was everywhere as he thrived again in a box-to-box role from central midfield.

Tim Sherwood claims Enzo Fernandez is a ‘major player’ for Chelsea

According to Tim Sherwood, Fernandez is currently emerging as a “major player” in the Blues side.

While everyone is aware of how important 22-year-old attacking playmaker Cole Palmer is to Chelsea, Sherwood actually claimed that they need to start building the team around midfield general Fernandez.

He said via the Premier League’s official website (10:21pm, 3 April): “Enzo Fernandez puts a shift in. He gets up, he gets back and he is a goal threat. He is fulfilling his potential. He is a major player for them in the future and they have to build around him.”

We view both Palmer and Fernandez, who linked up for the winning goal against Spurs, as vital cogs in the Chelsea project moving forward. Most importantly, journalist Fabrizio Romano claims via X that the club feel the same.

Both Palmer and Fernandez scored highly in Chelsea’s player ratings against Spurs after key contributions. While Fernandez continued his eye-catching form in 2025, Palmer registered his first assist since the 1 December with a superb cross.

If the pair of them can finish the season strongly, we’re confident of securing Champions League qualification and winning the Premier League.

Deeney told BBC Sport: “Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea): I have not been a big lover of Enzo, he has floated in and out of games. But he is starting to grow on me more and more. That Chelsea midfield is starting to click and he will have a decent end to the season.”

It’s quite noticeable that Fernandez is becoming a much bigger goal threat, which is a big bonus for Chelsea.

He scored and assisted in Argentina’s win over Brazil during the international break. Without a doubt, the midfielder is picking up some really dangerous pockets in and around the penalty box.

Chelsea fans are praising Fernandez for unlocking this new offensive side to his game.
