Nantes defender, Nicolas Pallois has admitted that the team heavily relies on Super Eagles winger Moses Simon, whose performances have been crucial in their battle for survival in Ligue 1.
Simon has been in outstanding form this season, and his influence was evident once again on Sunday when he scored in Nantes’ 3-2 loss to Le Havre.
Despite his efforts, the club remains in a precarious position, sitting 13th on the table; just three points above the relegation zone.
The Nigerian has directly contributed to nearly half of Nantes’ league goals this season, registering seven goals and eight assists.
His 15 goal contributions (G+A) make him one of the most productive players in the division, with only Rayan Cherki, Bradley Barcola, and Dilane Bakwa providing more assists (nine each).
Pallois, speaking about Simon’s importance to the team, acknowledged how much they rely on him in attack.
“We give the ball to Simon. We know that he’ll do damage and we cross our fingers that he succeeds,” Pallois told GFFN.
Simon is Nantes’ joint-top scorer alongside Matthis Abline, while the next-best provider in assists, Brazilian midfielder Douglas Augusto, has just three.
His contributions have been vital for Antoine Kombouaré’s side, who have struggled with relegation for most of the season but remain in contention to secure safety.
Since joining Nantes in 2020, Simon has been one of the club’s most influential players, playing a key role in their Coupe de France triumph in 2022.
With his impressive outing this season and contract running down, he is expected to seek a move away this summer, provided a suitable offer arrives.
