Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah has just received his maiden call-up to England’s senior squad for international matches in June.
It’s been an interesting season for Trevoh Chalobah, spending the first half of the campaign impressing out on loan with Crystal Palace. Afterwards, the 25-year-old centre-back has been brilliant for Chelsea in the second half of the season since they recalled him in January.
Joe Cole rates Trevoh Chalobah as Chelsea’s best defender, insisting it was crazy to let him leave Stamford Bridge in the first place.

Chelsea | 18 |
Crystal Palace | 14 |
On Friday morning, England manager Thomas Tuchel announced his squad for next month’s games against Andorra (World Cup qualifier) and Senegal (friendly).
Chalobah was included in a senior England squad for the first time in his career. He was joined by Chelsea teammates Levi Colwill, Reece James, Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke, too.
England fans question Trevoh Chalobah call-up
Like always, England’s squad announcement divides opinion across the Three Lions fanbase.
Here are some England fans on X disagreeing with Chalobah’s inclusion in the latest 26-man squad…
One fan wrote: “Trevoh Chalobah getting in ahead of Ben White is diabolical.”
“No clue how Trevoh Chalobah, Jordan Henderson and Ivan Toney made their way into this,” another said.
One supporter posted: “What exactly has Chalobah done to deserve a call-up?”
“He’s so favouring Chelsea players. How have Chalobah and Madueke made it in?” another commented.
For supporters of Palace and Chelsea, they will know just how deserved Chalobah’s England call-up actually is. Incidentally, it’s the first time he’ll be with his country since he played for the Under-21s in 2019.
Recent transfer speculation claimed that Chelsea could look to sell Trevoh Chalobah in the upcoming summer window. If sold, the academy graduate would generate pure profit to help comply with PSR rules.
Hopefully, Chalobah’s England inclusion is a reminder to the Stamford Bridge hierarchy that he needs to stay because he’s an important part of Enzo Maresca’s first-team group.
What Thomas Tuchel has said about Trevoh Chalobah’s call-up
Tuchel will get the opportunity to work with Chalobah again after previous coaching him a few years ago at Chelsea.
The England manager insists the Blues centre-half fully deserves his international call-up because of his form in the last few months.
Tuchel said via England’s X account: “We have some injuries in the central defender position and Trevoh stepped up massively since he came back to Chelsea.
“So since last camp, even before, he was already on our radar. But since the last camp, in the last months, he had a major contribution to the run of Chelsea that they are still fighting for Champions League. And he was one of their very consistent, most consistent and their best defenders. So we think he deserves the call-up and maybe he gets his first cap.”
It would great to see Chalobah rewarded for a brilliant season with an England debut at the end of it.
Noni Madueke mentioned Trevoh Chalobah’s leadership earlier in the season, and it’s an area of his game that definitely goes under the radar. We expect he’ll slot in pretty effortlessly to England’s squad, especially alongside so many familiar faces.
