Chelsea were left with a big decision to make over the future of one of their players after his first season with the club.

Jadon Sancho made the move to Stamford Bridge on deadline day last summer, with the Blues sensing an opportunity at a cut-price deal from Manchester United.

He joined the club on loan, with a deal in place for him to join on an obligation after his first season at the club.

It later emerged that Chelsea could pay a small fee to send Sancho back to Old Trafford should they be unsatisfied with what they had seen from him.

Why Chelsea are sending Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United

Chelsea set a deadline for Sancho to agree to their terms and extend his stay at Stamford Bridge, however according to The Athletic, he will not be joining the club on a permanent basis.

The report goes on to say that this is because a deal couldn’t be agreed between both parties over his new salary, which was believed to be far lower than what he was already earning.

Sancho’s final contribution for the Blues was arguably his best. The winger curled home a brilliant goal in the latter stages of the Conference League final against Real Betis.

With Sancho now not a part of next season’s plans, it looks as if the Blues are going to be looking elsewhere to fill the void on the left-wing.

Chelsea targeting new left-winger

Chelsea have been strongly linked to the signing of a new left-winger this summer, with them having a preference for them to be right-footed.

Reports have claimed they are very keen on signing Jamie Gittens, with the Borussia Dortmund man expected to be on the move during this transfer window.

The youngster previously featured as part of the Manchester City academy like Sancho, however fits very well with the type of player Chelsea are currently targeting.

The Blues have already signed Liam Delap, who has experience working with Enzo Maresca at the Etihad. He was also a teammate of Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia during his time there.
