Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared what he is actually finding quite easy in the build up for the EFL Cup final against Chelsea.

He told CNN Sports that he has somehow been able to put the final to the back of his mind as his side prepare for a potentially legendary run in to the end of the season.

Chelsea are preparing to face Jurgen Klopp’s side in the first cup final of the season in just over two weeks’ time.

Mauricio Pochettino will be well aware that his side will need to be at a much higher level than they were a week ago when they were heavily defeated at Anfield.

On that day, only really Djordje Petrovic and Christopher Nkunku covered themselves in glory as far as the Blues are concerned.

The ocassion of a cup final should bring more out of them, although Alexander-Arnold has admitted the match is not currently at the front of his mind.

Alexander-Arnold on Chelsea League Cup final

He said: “Surprisingly easy [to put the League Cup final to the back of his mind]. I always think because at this time every game is almost like a final. A certain other team look like they’re clicking into gear which means it’s going to go down to the wire as usual. Every game is a must win, simple as that.

“Carabao Cup is a 50:50 [chances of winning it]. Cup competitions speak for themselves because it’s knockout football. I will back ourselves against any team in the world to go and beat them over a game or two.”

Chelsea will perhaps have a newfound level of confidence following their performance in the cup last night against a top team.

They were sensational as they beat Aston Villa 3-1 in their own backyard, with Enzo Fernandez in particular silencing a few critics.
