Many years before Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, X-Men star Hugh Jackman more or less predicted that a way would be figured out in order to have the X-Men and Avengers share a franchise.

Although the two franchises were once completely disconnected, Jackman’s X-Men universe is finally after all these years creeping its way into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It’s expected that the studio will debut as many mutants as possible before Avengers: Secret Wars, with Deadpool & Wolverine being the next big Marvel Studios movie set outside of the “MCU”.

While talking with Collider, over a decade ago, for his 2013 movie The Wolverine – Jackman expressed his interest in the X-Men teaming up with Spider-Man and the Avengers.

When asked what fans have to do to see Jackman’s Wolverine alongside the Disney-owned Avengers, Jackman stated that he asks “the same question” himself.

“I literally asked the same question the other day,” he said.

He went on to explain that he had asked higher-ups at Marvel if it could ever happen, which he was told would be “difficult” due to the franchises belonging to multiple studios.

However, Jackman went on to say: “I believe, maybe I’m optimistic, I understand that Marvel – they’ve got Avengers, they’ve got a lot of big things going on.”

He added: “But at some point, I just find it almost impossible to believe that there’s not a way to bring: Iron Man, all of the Avengers characters, Wolverine, the X-Men characters, Spider-Man – and somehow get them in together.”

The Logan star went on to say that he struggled to see what was stopping the studios – at the time – from teaming up and just crossing over their franchises.

“I don’t see the impediment, I’m like ‘Hey, you’ve got three studios, just split it three ways in terms of costs and then happy days, it’s all coming together.’”

Now, over a decade later as previously mentioned, Jackman’s Wolverine among many other X-Men characters are slowly starting to debut in various universes adjacent to the MCU.

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s promotional footage even includes Jackman’s Wolverine jumping into what appears to be a Doctor Strange portal alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson aka Deadpool.

Although it’s yet to be announced if the X-Men stars will be fighting alongside the Avengers in Secret Wars, it’s highly expected that fans will experience that team-up.

Deadpool & Wolverine comes to theatres on July 26.
