One club do not look to be too worried about Chelsea’s interest in one of their players and are expecting him to stay with them.

Chelsea want to improve their attack this summer but have failed to do that so far. While they were keen on Michael Olise, the 22-year-old ended up leaving Crystal Palace for Bayern Munich instead.

Olise is not the only winger who the Blues have been linked with, though. There has been plenty of talk about interest in Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.

Chelsea see Adeyemi as an alternative to Victor Osimhen, but the German can play on the left flank. In fact, that is where he mostly played last season.

Left wing is also Williams’ best position, which was evident to see at Euro 2024 as the Spain international helped his country go on to win the competition.

Athletic Bilbao not too worried about interest in Nico Williams from Chelsea

Williams is attracting a lot of interest right now following the European Championship, but there is no guarantee that he will be leaving the club for Stamford Bridge or any other stadium this summer.

According to the Sunday Mirror (page 74, 21/07/2024), Athletic Bilbao expect the 22-year-old to remain with them.

The same outlet claims that while Williams is admired by the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona and has a £49m release clause in his contract, Athletic Bilbao are still confident that they can keep hold of him.

Their report also states that Williams’ wage demands could be a problem, making it possible that he stays where he is.

Williams’ agent has spoken to Barcelona, however, so his current employers cannot get too excited just yet.

Nico Williams will stay at Athletic Bilbao or join Barcelona

Williams would be a terrific signing for Enzo Maresca‘s squad, with the Spain star being such a dangerous winger.

Over the last year, Williams has completed 3.42 successful take-ons per 90 minutes. It puts him in the 94th percentile among attacking midfielders and wingers for that area (FBref).

At this point, though, you would expect him to stay where he is or join Barcelona, with the Catalan club being the ones who seem to be pushing for his signature the most.
