A couple have been left stranded in northern NSW after their car was allegedly stolen from a caravan park.
Jack and Mandy told 2GB’s Ben Fordham how they are now stuck in Moree, after their car, which was attached to their caravan, was stolen over the weekend.
Their caravan has a specific hitch and weighs 3.5 tonnes, meaning a regular rental car would not be able to tow the caravan, leaving them stranded with their campervan.
”[They] had to unhitch [it] in the middle of the night, they came in, pinched it, rammed it through the locked gate and off they went,” Mandy said
“It’s a fairly specialised hitch that’s not like a caravan, you’ve gotta have a vehicle that can tow 3.5 tonnes, the best we can think to do at the moment is hire a car for around here so we can go to the shops.”
The couple’s car was found burnt out nearby.
While on air, a caller named Anthony donated $500 to the couple, which they said will be helpful once they get their caravan home.
“That’s excellent, cause once we get (the car) replaced, we need to get an electrician to sort it, an engineer for the hitch so that’s very helpful,” Mandy said.
“Out of bad things, good things come, the owner [of the caravan park] drove us out to the car to have a look, the locals…Jack needs to go to Inverell today and one of the neighbouring campers has offered to drive him.”
The pair are visiting NSW on a road trip from interstate.
