The long-gestating Spawn reboot from Blumhouse Productions has received a major update after a decade since it was first announced.
The Blumhouse Productions CEO Jason Blum has finally revealed the title and tentative release window of the new Spawn movie.
The reboot was first announced in 2009 but since has been stuck in developmental hell.
Now the project appears to have gained momentum and is aiming for a 2025 release date. Blum announced on X that the reboot will be titled King Spawn.
The screenplay will be penned by Scott Silver ( Joker), Malcolm Spellman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), and Matt Mixon.
Jamie Foxx is set to star as the titular anti-hero, also known as Albert Francis “Al” Simmons. Although plot details remain sketchy, Blum has previously teased that the Spawn reboot would be the “Blumhouse version of a superhero movie.”
The official logline for King Spawn reads:
“NYPD detective Twitch Williams investigates a series of grisly murder scenes, perpetrated by the mysterious supernatural vigilante Spawn.”
Spawn is based on the Image Comics character created by Todd McFarlane, which first appeared in 1992.
It was adapted into a feature film in 1997, with Michael Jai White playing Spawn. The film, directed by Mark A.Z. Dippé, also starred John Leguizamo, Martin Sheen, and Theresa Randle, among others.
Blumhouse’s King Spawn is expected to hit theatres sometime in 2025.
