Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine movie, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, has officially had a full premiere which means critics are now flooding the web with their reactions.

Although the MCU movie is one of the most, if not the most, anticipated movies of the year – its first critic reactions show a fairly divided response with some slamming it and others praising it.

See below to find out what critics and others who attended the premiere are saying.

As of writing, Deadpool & Wolverine – directed by Shawn Levy – has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a fresh score of 81% and 85 critic reviews.

“From cameos to background Easter eggs to long-fan-ficked meet-ups, it’s a relentless onslaught of surprises designed to get audiences screaming and throwing popcorn in the air,” Olly Richards of Empire Magazine wrote.

Richards scored the movie a 4 out of 5.

However, Clarisse Loughrey of the Independent (UK) scored the sequel a 2 out of 5.

Deadpool & Wolverine is as much fun as you can conceivably have at a corporate merger meeting,” Clarisse wrote.

Another disappointed critic included Kristen Lopez from Substack, calling the movie “a mixed back of occasionally funny one-liners and characters you forgot you probably complained about”.

Despite some not being as impressed as others, the high 81% score was mostly built up of positive reactions, with Flick Fan Nation’s Austin Burke stating that Deadpool & Wolverine “will reinvigorate this franchise.”

Deadpool & Wolverine will reinvigorate this franchise, as it injects the glorious madness of our merc with a mouth in the best (and most self-aware) way,” Burke wrote.

He added that people who show up to theatres will “get an insane amount of payoff.”

It should be noted that although Deadpool & Wolverine has been labelled as a story that any viewer can enjoy, it’s also the culmination of many movies leading up to this huge “payoff”.

Jackman debuted on the big screen as the iconic X-Men character back in 2000, with Reynolds taking on the mantle as Wade Wilson alongside Jackman in 2009’s Origins: Wolverine.

Since, before, and after – the two stars have reprised their roles in various instalments but haven’t joined forces in a Marvel movie side-by-side since their 2009 X-Men spinoff.

Fans who have eagerly waited for this dynamic duo to share the screen as Deadpool and Wolverine for the past 15 years will be the true people to listen out for when waiting for online reactions.

Deadpool & Wolverine officially hits worldwide theatres on July 26.
