Chelsea got their pre-season campaign underway overnight with a 2-2 draw against Wrexham in the United States.

While the result looks underwhelming, Enzo Maresca has already said that he has taken a number of positives from the outing.

Maresca highlighted Romeo Lavia and Wesley Fofana for praise following the game, with them both completing their minutes without any injury concerns.

He was also full of praise for Robert Sanchez too, who started the game in goal in the absence of Djordje Petrovic from the tour.

The Spaniard didn’t concede during his time on the pitch, as he begins to make his case to start the Premier League season as the number one.

Chelsea will struggle to sell Robert Sanchez

Reports have begun to spread that the Blues are keen to part ways with one of their goalkeepers this summer.

Journalist Nizaar Kinsella told BBC Sport that Sanchez is far more difficult to part ways with than the man who was number one for most of 2024.

He said: “It may be harsh on Petrovic, but he is a saleable asset having only been signed for £14m and with a market of clubs interested in him. Sanchez, on the other hand, cost £25m and had an injury-hit campaign – so it would be a struggle to sell him at this stage.”

Doubts over Djordje Petrovic

It has been claimed that there are doubts over Petrovic’s ability to feature in Maresca’s system, which is why they are open to his departure after one season at the club.

Reports have also stated that there is serious interest in bringing a new goalkeeper to Stamford Bridge, with Filip Jorgensen at the top of that list up to now.

They have reportedly made a bid to sign him, and have actually agreed personal terms already over a potential move.
