Many Chelsea fans are suggesting that their player could be promoted into the first-team picture next season because of what a recent report is saying.

Chelsea are currently away in the United States for pre-season with a large squad of players, which does include several talented youngsters. It’s going to be interesting to see who remains in the group under Enzo Maresca by the time the new campaign begins.

Angelo Gabriel, who’s just 19, is on the pre-season tour and will be hoping to impress the new head coach.

It was claimed last summer by Gianluca Di Marzio, Mauricio Pochettino wanted to keep Angelo after pre-season, but he spent the 2023/24 season out on loan with French club Strasbourg.

Chelsea fans suggest Angelo Gabriel could make first team

There’s now a feeling within the Chelsea fanbase that £13m attacker (Evening Standard) Angelo is primed to join the senior group in the 2024/25 campaign.

This comes amid reports that Cole Palmer will be used centrally under Maresca. In theory, that would vacate a spot on the right wing, which is where youngster Angelo plays. According to The Daily Mail this week, Palmer is expected to play more central positions next season.

Here are some Blues supporters on X talking about what the report could mean for Angelo:

One fan said: “Angelo can stay then.”

Another wrote: “Does this mean Angelo will likely stay to back-up [Noni] Madueke?”

A third posted: “Always thought Palmer would be the right-winger but this opens up a lot of options. Could even mean Angelo Gabriel stays and a left-winger signing becomes more prominent.”

A supporter said: “Let’s keep Angelo.”

Another claimed: “Path is clear for Noni [Madueke]. He will do well with it. It also means Angelo could well stay and be our 4th winger currently.”

Finally, one fan responded: “I think Angelo could stay then if Palmer moves central.”

Angelo must shine in pre-season

Now that Angelo is with the Chelsea squad on the pre-season tour, he must make the most of it to convince Maresca he should be in his plans for the new term.

The Brazilian right-winger, who loves to cut infield on his strong left foot, got 45 minutes of action in Thursday’s 2-2 draw with Wrexham. He’s a very tidy footballer and has great skills, but we want to see him really contribute with his attacking output in the upcoming friendly matches.

Noni Madueke is a right-winger you’d guess is a shoe-in for Maresca’s squad. Is Angelo good enough yet to be his understudy next season?

Angelo managed zero goals and four assists in 25 matches for Strasbourg, which is hardly numbers that jump off the page.

However, the South American teenager certainly has huge potential and was injured for several months. On top of that, The Athletic reported that Angelo struggled with the language barrier in France.
