Can Collins get the job done?

Here we go, it all comes down to this.

Can Laura Collins do enough to win Team GB gold in Equestrian team jumping?

We are about to find out. The whole stadium holds its breath.

The tension is through the roof, the hosts are begging for Collins to slip up.

GB’s Pitchford through

Just like that, Liam Pitchford has done it.

He is through to the round of 32 in the men’s table tennis singles, and he barely broke a sweat.

He dispatches Fiji’s Vicky Wu 4-0. To be honest, it was to be expected with Wu not being seeded.

It will only get tougher from here.

GB rowers through to finals

Job done in the rowing for Team GB.

Well, in the heats anyway. They have just done what they were expected to do.

Both the men’s and the women’s eights have qualified for the final by winning their three-team heats.

Meanwhile, Chloe Brew and Rebecca Edwards are through to the women’s pair semi-finals.

Now time to rest up and recover.

‘Britain well-placed to defend Team Jumping title’

Sonja McLaughlan, Equestrian commentator, on BBC Radio 5 Live:

Britain and France are effectively in an arm wrestle for the gold medal. Tom McEwen has just completed a fabulous round and he knows how important that was for Great Britain. Perfection under the most extreme pressure.

McEwen is bang in the mix for an individual medal as well. It has put Britain right back to the top of the pile. Britain are looking well-placed to defend their title.

Pitchford in table tennis action

The Olympics is just non-stop action, isn’t it?

Away from Equestrian, Team GB have an athlete in action in table tennis, and that person is Liam Pitchford.

He is currently 3-0 in games against Fiji’s Vicky Wu in the round of 64 of the men’s singles.

Pitchford is putting on a clinic.

Pidcock aiming for successive golds

In an hour’s time, Tom Pidcock will take to the start line for the men’s mountain bike final.

The Briton is aiming to defend his Olympic title from Tokyo, and he is one of the favorites to do just that.

Imagine if he does it, back-to-back Olympic champions at just 24 years old.

I don’t want to jinx him, though, it’s going to be a slog out there.

It’s going to be a belter, and it starts at 13:10 BST!

GB top in Team Jumping with one ride to go

Here comes Tom McEwen of Team GB in the Equestrian Team Jumping final.

Great Britain started the round ahead of the French in the gold medal position.

McEwen jumps a clear round, what a brilliant run. He takes Great Britain closer to that gold medal with one rider still to go.

They can see the gold shimmering in the distance now!

Shooting – Sheng takes second gold

Sheng Lihao has done it again for China!

He has taken gold in the men’s 10m air rifle with an Olympic Record, his second of the Games.

He wins the event by 0.8 points with a score of 252.2, with Swedish shooter Victor Lindgren taking silver.

Tom Daley: ‘I’ve completed the set’

Tom Daley, 10m Synchro silver medallist for Team GB, speaking to BBC One:

It’s just so special. This time last year deciding to come back, never mind not knowing if I would make the synchro team. Doing it in front of my son who asked me to come back is so special I now have one of every colour. I’ve completed the set.

I’ve never seen Noah cry in my whole life, I know how much today mean’s him. it’s very sad Dave is not hear, but I know Dave and my dad would both be so proud to see us here today.

I don’t know [whether it’s my last Olympics]. We’ll enjoy today and see what the future holds. Right now, I’ll just go and enjoy time with my little ones. He’s (Robbie) six years old and I hope he’ll remember some of it. He’ll be able to touch some of the Eiffel Tower.

Wiffen first into men’s 800m freestyle final

Right, let’s quickly take a look at what else has been going on this morning.

The action returned in the swimming pool after a night of drama in which Adam Peaty narrowly missed out on the 100m breaststroke three-peat.

Ireland’s Dan Wiffen has made sure he has a middle lane for the men’s 800m freestyle final after qualifying first.

Meanwhile, for Team GB, Freya Colbert is third-fasted into the women’s 400m individual medley. Fellow Briton Katie Shanahan also makes it through.

Another belting morning at the swimming.

WATCH: Daley and Williams receive medals

Another heartwarming moment inbound!

Tom Daley and Noah Williams now have their silver medals around their necks, they won’t be coming off for a while.

Then the five-time Olympic medallist spots his family and blows them a kiss.

It brings a smile to my face, so lovely.

Celebrations begin for China

I have to take a minute to praise the Chinese pair Junjie Lian and Hao Jang, they were simply spectacular today.

They have been compared to Erling Haaland in football, being described as ‘robots’.

It’s easy to see why, they barely made a ripple in the pool as they dived in.

The pair could squeeze through a cheerio if they really wanted.

Gold is exactly what they deserved.

Jane Figueiredo: ‘Over the moon’

Jane Figueiredo, Tom Daley and Noah Williams’ coach, speaking to BBC One:

Excited, fearless, just over the moon for both of them. There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes for both of them, to come and achieve a silver medal is absolutely brilliant. China was just too good. We hung in there, but it was brilliant.

I’m their coach, so I think they should be better. The games or any of the events, you have to be consistently and emotionally detached. You have to be focused, just execute the skill and everything is outside of that. They just executed today.

For Tom and I, it’s like old turkey. We’ve been on this rodeo. It’s Noah’s first medal, he lost his beautiful, wonderful coach a few years ago. David Jenkins set him up, I took him the rest of the way. Noah was exceptional today. It’s an emotional thing, it’s not just Xs and Os, it’s three of us with a whole team around us with an amazing London aquatics venue.

Daley and Williams take silver

It’s a brilliant silver for Tom Daley and Noah Williams, what a performance!

It’s now five medals from five Olympics for Daley, and his very first silver. He has completed the set.

And just look at the smile on his face, his beam is as wide as the River Seine.

China beat out Daley and Williams

WOW, what a dive that is from China.

This is a masterclass in diving from this Chinese pair, that will surely secure them the gold medal.

Team GB secure top two

The cheers are huge as Daley and Williams take to the platform.

What have they got for us?

It’s another exceptional dive from the pair, they have surely secured a silver at the very least.

Look at the smiles on their faces, they know they have smashed it again.

93.24, it’s at least a silver.

Canada secure bronze… at least

Mexico are up next, can they catch the Canadians?

Oh no, they can’t Canada have won the bronze and their reaction is just brilliant to see.

The young pair jump around, they can hardly contain themselves.

They could still secure silver… but Daley and Williams would have to have a stinker.

Daley’s family watching on!

This can only make you smile.

Tom Daley’s family have been spotted cheering him on in the crowd, and it’s just so heartwarming.

Plenty to cheer about so far, and maybe even more so in just a few minutes.

‘Silver written all over this’

Leon Taylor, Olympic silver medallist in diving, speaking on BBC:

Oh, it’s good, it’s really good! Tom’s dive in particular was perfect execution, Noah was a little bit off but still a really good dive. They could squeeze on synchro, it won’t be over 90, but it will be high 80s. A solid silver is written all over this, but they’ve still got their biggest dive to come.

Round Five – Another crisp dive from Daley and Williams

They smashed it yet again!

Both are so crisp and clean on the entry. Another big score coming surely?

Yes, indeed it is, 87.92. It seems silver will be there, but China are still flying ahead.

Round Four – Daley and Williams impress again

A monster dive from Tom Daley and Noah Williams!

That is truly sensational, with minimal splash yet again. Their entries have been superb.

‘China are above world class’

Leon Taylor, Olympic silver medallist in diving, speaking on BBC:

I don’t really know what to say, China are above world class, a class of their own. Beautiful synchronisation, they get into the water so cleanly, such little splash, they are in perfect time the whole way through.

Round Three – Top 5

  8. France – 97.20

‘A great dive’

Leon Taylor, Olympic silver medallist in diving, speaking on BBC:

The crowd go ‘oooh’, and I like that. A great dive, a great execution. It’s a risky dive, you can see Noah was quite deep in his pike because he didn’t want to over rotate. That’s more than good enough, they are keeping themselves in contention.

Round Two – Daley and Williams stay strong

Yet again Tom Daley and Noah Williams nail the synchronised aspect of the dive

They are doing what they can to stay as close as they can to China.

51.60 is the score, taking them to 105.0 overall – still level with Canada.

‘Classy opening dive’

Leon Taylor, Olympic silver medallist in diving, speaking on BBC:

It’s a classy opening dive from Tom and Noah. Jane is doing her usual celebrations when her divers hit the water. Just what we wanted from our boys. That’s nines on execution and synchro.

Round One – Great start for Daley and Williams

Tom Daley and Noah Williams are the sixth pair to dive each round, and here they are.

There is a massive cheer as they approach the edge of the platform.

What an opening dive that is!

So synchronised, so clean. That is just the start Team GB will have wanted.

‘I’m confident Daley will walk away with a medal’

Leon Taylor, Olympic silver medallist in diving, speaking on BBC:

Tom [Daley] did something similar on social media. I’m pretty confident that the boys will be stood on the podium. 20 years ago I was smiling, laughing, enjoying the moment because you know you’re going to be retired a long time. We don’t know whether Tom will be walking away after this or not.

Noah [Williams] has been getting on with it, head down getting on with it, he’s been as cool as a cucumber. Tom is such a lovely guy, he wouldn’t be putting any pressure on Noah. It’s going to be pressurised, this is why we’re doing. I think they are a great partnership, they’ve been together for a while but they’ve known each other for a long time.

Here come the divers!

Right, it’s Tom Daley time!

All the divers in this final are ready, I’m ready, are you ready?

The medals are up for grabs, can Daley and his partner Noah Williams get themselves on the podium?

While we have a couple of minutes, let’s revisit one of yesterday’s biggest stories.

It was an emotional scene following Adam Peaty’s attempt at a three-peat at the Olympics.

The two-time Olympic champion Adam Peaty fell agonisingly short in his pursuit of three-straight golds, losing by 0.02 seconds to Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi by just 0.02sec.

After the race he spoke to the media, revealing the heartwarming response his son, George, gave to him.

GB eye equestrian gold

Tom Daley isn’t the only gold medallist in action from around 10am BST.

The eventing is also in it’s final day and will be concluding with showjumping, the final phase of the event.

This will decide the medal places in the team events with Team GB well placed just ahead of France following the dressage and cross country.

Invidividual performances will be just as important here, as the top-25 athletes will qualify for the final of the invidivual jumping final.

Men’s hockey: Ireland 1-2 Australia

A disaster defending the short corner for Ireland as goal scorer Lee Cole sees a goal-bound shot cannon off of his foot and that is a penalty stroke.

Australia’s Blake Govers makes no mistake as he goes hard and low to the goalkeepers’ right and there is no stopping those!

And that is how the first-half ends.

A perfectly executed set-piece to draw themselves level.

Kirsty Gilmour with a strong start

Team GB’s Kisty Gilmour got her badminton singles tournament off to a flying start this morning.

She beat Azerbaijan’s Keisha Fatima Azzahra 21 – 13, 21-11.

That leaves her second in Group N behind He Bingjao.

Team GB in Judo action

Team GB’s Lele Nairne is in action today in the -57kg Judo.

Chinese Taipei win 4-0

The silver medallists from Tokyo are into the quarter-finals.

There was certainly some battling from Team GB but they didn’t have enough to get their noses in front in at any point today are they out.

But Chinese Taipei look like they could be a force to reckon with.
