Michael C. Hall’s Dexter is coming back to life once again.
Following a one-season limited series revival, the iconic serial killer is confirmed to return in a new sequel series titled Dexter: Resurrection.
The Dexter sequel series was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024.
Clyde Phillips, the showrunner and an executive producer of the original Dexter series, shared the exciting news during a panel for Dexter: Original Sin, a separate prequel series in development.
The new sequel will serve as a sequel to Dexter: New Blood and set in the present day with Michael C. Hall returning as the titular character.
Chris McCarthy, the co-CEO of Paramount Global and president/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement.
“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever.
The statement further reads, “While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”
Dexter originally aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013. It was revived in 2021 with a limited series, Dexter: New Blood.
Michael C. Hall reprised his role in New Blood, with Dexter now living under an assumed identity and attempting to suppress his vigilante tendencies.
The cast included Jack Alcott as Harrison, Dexter’s estranged son, along with Julia Jones, Johnny Sequoyah, Alano Miller, and Clancy Brown. Jennifer Carpenter also returned as Debra Morgan.
A separate prequel series, titled Dexter: Original Sin, is also in the works with Pattrick Gibson playing younger Dexter. It is set to premiere in December 2024.
Michael C. Hall’s Dexter: Resurrection is expected to debut on Showtime sometime in 2025.
