A trio of flags raised after the men’s 800m freestyle has a number of people making jokes about Catholics in the northeastern United States.
The event saw an Irishman take gold, an American take silver, and an Italian take bronze.
So when the trio of flags were hoisted, references to movies and the northeastern part of the country were made.
‘Average Catholic school on the East Coast,’ wrote one person on Twitter.
Other references to movies such as ‘The Departed’, ‘Goodfellas’, and ‘Brooklyn’ were made.

It came after Daniel Wiffen became the first Irishman to win gold in swimming at an Olympics
Daniel Wiffen won the 800m freestyle at the Olympics – setting an Olympic record in the process.
Wiffen, who hails from County Armagh in north Ireland, became the first Irish male swimmer to ever medal at the Olympics.
Not only did he medal, he stood at the top of the podium as Amhran na bhFiann – the Irish national anthem – played at a men’s swimming event for the first time.
Coming in the silver medal place was Bobby Finke, who won gold in the 800m freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics.
Bronze went to Gregorio Paltrinieri – who nabbed silver behind Finke in Tokyo just three years ago.
