According to recent reports, Netflix has cancelled an upcoming spinoff series of the popular show starring Elliot Page, The Umbrella Academy.

The main show itself is set to end with its fourth and final season this month, however, a spinoff based on the “Sparrow Academy” is said to be no longer in the works at the streamer.

This most likely means the franchise will be coming to an end completely.

As per Rolling Stone (via Whats-on-Netflix), the Sparrows who were introduced in the third season of The Umbrella Academy will no longer be receiving the spinoff treatment.

The alternative universe group of super-powered individuals consisted of Marcus Hargreeves, Ben, Fei, Alphonso, Sloane, Jayme, and Christopher.

Played by stars Justin Cornwell, Justin H. Min, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, and Cazzie David.

It’s said that the team behind the main show began to develop a spinoff based on the alternative universe’s team shortly after their season 3 introduction.

The synopsis for the “Sparrow Academy” spinoff:

“An Umbrella Academy spinoff following The Sparrow Academy, an Academy of seven children born on the same day and adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves following a change in the timeline caused by their counterparts, the Umbrella Academy.”

The Sparrow Academy is almost identical to the Umbrella Academy, but built with what Hargreeves believes to be a better set of children.”

Although the spinoff was said to be in development, the team behind the show stated that it had yet to be officially greenlit by Netflix.

Rolling Stone reported the news in an expose of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy showrunner, Steve Blackman.

As per the report, it alleges that the showrunner created a “hostile workplace” while working on the show, however, he has denied all allegations.

Two additional projects with Blackman attached, which are both said to be in a spot of trouble at Netflix, include a space sci-fi series titled Orbital and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a series based on the immensely popular video game series over at PlayStation, with Blackman reportedly not attached to either anymore.

It’s also been stated that the two projects have also been cancelled, as per a post on X (Twitter) made by the author – Netflix has yet to release an official statement.
