Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has the chance to join Atletico Madrid before the transfer window closes.

Aston Villa had a bid for Conor Gallagher accepted earlier in the summer, but he remained at Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have since swooped in for him.

It has been widely reported that Atletico have agreed a deal with their Premier League counterparts for Gallagher.

However, it remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old accepts their offer or turns them down like what he did with Villa.

Gallagher has entered the final 12 months of his contract, so Chelsea will not want him sticking around at Stamford Bridge if he does not sign an extension.

Gabriel Agbonlahor gives Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid verdict

Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has been discussing Gallagher’s potential move to Atletico.

The retired forward thinks it could be a good switch for the Englishman because of his and Atletico’s style.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said: “It suits him. Exactly how he plays is how Atletico Madrid have played for years.

“I remember watching Atletico Madrid when they used to play against that prime Barcelona, they just kicked the life out of [Lionel] Messi, Neymar, [Luis] Suarez, [Andres] Iniesta, Xavi, foul, foul, fouls! But they had midfielders who could get about the pitch as well, score the odd goal. I think Gallagher suits that team.”

Chelsea have spoken about giving Gallagher a new contract but, at this point, it would be a bit of a surprise if he remained in west London.

Conor Gallagher a good fit for Atletico Madrid

Atletico have always been a very physical team under Diego Simeone, a very aggressive one.

Gallagher has those attributes, and you can see that from some of his stats from last season. For example, he made the most amount of fouls in the Premier League after registering 83 (AS).

Ultimately, the England international could be a very good fit for Atletico, but it is going to come down to whether he actually fancies a move to Spain.

As of now, Gallagher looks open to playing for Simeone, but nothing has been agreed yet, so Chelsea supporters will have to wait and see what happens.

Again, though, everything seems to be pointing towards the Chelsea academy graduate leaving the club this summer. He is a valuable asset in terms of how much money the Blues can get for him, so they are not going to let him walk away for nothing next year.
