The Marvel franchise since Avengers: Endgame has been a rollercoaster of good and bad films. It’s a shame to see it, but it’s hard to ignore the failures of some of its films like Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels.
Many have stated, however, that the new Deadpool and Wolverine film has brought it back to life, with Ryan Reynolds’ hilarious 4th wall breaking and Hugh Jackman’s comic-accurate suit.
With Marvel being back on the rise, some fans believe it is sharing too much in order to keep fans intrigued.
On July 28th at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel had one of its biggest panels yet.
From Anthony Mackie’s Captain America return in Captain America: Brave New World, the full Thunderbolts* cast, and the return of the Russo brothers to direct the next Avengers film – Hall H had it all.
Along with all of those exciting announcements was the shocking surprise of Robert Downey Jr’s return to the cinematic universe as Doctor Doom.
As many fans were initially enthralled by the return of RDJ, who stated “new mask, same task,” some have mixed feelings.
Not only due to the complicated and villainous nature of Doctor Doom but also his Romani heritage.
However, some have speculated that this Doctor Doom will be a Tony Stark variant.
With all of these announcements have come many mixed reviews about the steps the MCU is taking.
Downey’s Doctor Doom will reportedly be first introduced to the MCU in a post-credit scene of the 2025 film Fantastic Four: First Steps.
“They should have waited to announce and it would’ve been more exciting when watching Fantastic Four.”
“How about let’s not even go to the movies anymore?”
“Let’s just go to social media, where we can hear about and read about all the leaks and have no surprises about the plots.”
Many are viewing the reveal as an “act of desperation” for Marvel, and are using Downey to hopefully bring back some of the original fans of the franchise.
“Why are they revealing so much why can’t we just wait to see all this cool s*** when the movie comes out… like them telling us RDJ is doom and that he’s gonna make an appearance at the end of f4 is like HUGE SPOILERS.”
Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to release on the 25th of July, 2025.
