A man has been arrested after a Sydney kebab shop was allegedly set alight sparking two police pursuits.
Police were doing routine patrols on Hoxton Park Road in Liverpool at 2am today when they saw a restaurant on fire.
They called NSW Fire and Rescue who immediately responded to the scene.
The officers then spotted a Suzuki Swift leaving the scene and attempted to stop the car when the driver allegedly refused to stop.
A pursuit started before it was called off shortly after.
The car was then seen again on Fifteenth Avenue, West Hoxton, sparking a second pursuit through two suburbs.
Police say the driver stopped the car on King Street in Rossmore, before attempting to run from the scene.
Officers were able to catch and arrest the 20-year-old.
Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Greg Wright said the kebab shop was “totally consumed” by flames when crews arrived.
“The fire was very fierce in the early stages, however the quick work of the firefighters brought the fire under control very quickly,” he said.
The fire was fully extinguished within three hours, however, three businesses were damaged by the flames.
The police investigation is ongoing.
There were no reported injuries.
The 20-year-old man was charged with 12 offences this morning in relation to the fire and the pursuit including damage property by fire/explosion more than $15,000, break and enter house/destroy property more than $60,000, police pursuit and driving a conveyance without consent of owner.
He was refused bail and was due to appear in Liverpool Local Court today.
