• This is the moment a gang of masked raiders attempted to raid a bouncer’s home
  • Martyn Whitehurst discovered footage of four people trying to steal his bike
  • The bouncer informed Staffordshire Police but has little hope in results

This is the moment a gang of four masked raiders attempted to break into a house in Stoke and escape with a motorbike.

Bouncer Martyn Whitehurst captured the footage on the doorbell camera at his Bucknall home.

It shows one of the raiders attempting to force open a door with two accomplices in the front garden. A fourth then arrives armed with a pair of bolt-cutters.

The would-be burglars fled empty-handed but Martyn hopes Staffordshire Police will catch the offenders.

He said: ‘I rang the police and gave them all the evidence I have – but I’ve heard nothing back.’

The footage was captured outside the property – on Langford Road, in Bucknall – at 5.15am on Saturday, July 6.

Martyn explained: ‘I got home from work at about 1.30am as I work on the doors as a door supervisor.

‘I went to sleep at about 2am and the attempted robbery took place at 5.15am when I was still asleep. I woke up at about 6.45am and noticed my cover was off my bike.

‘Then I went through my doorbell footage and found the footage. They’ve tried to take my motorbike but couldn’t cut through the chain.

‘I don’t hold much faith in the police. A few years ago I had a bike stolen. It was neighbours and friends who tracked them down, not the police.

‘A friend parked outside watching the house as they dismantled it in full view. But when the police showed up, the lad ran and the police said there was no case because multiple people lived in the house so there was no way of knowing who did it.’

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident.

A spokesman said: ‘We’re appealing for information after an attempted burglary in Stoke-on-Trent. We received a call to reports of an attempted burglary and theft from an address on Langford Road.

‘A group of people were seen on a doorbell camera attempting to steal a motorbike and attempting to gain entry into the property. We’re keen to speak to anyone who may have information that can help with our investigation.’

Witnesses should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 248 of July 6, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
