Parks and Recreation and Severance actor Adam Scott reflected on his iconic Step Brothers singing scene earlier this month when making an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
His Step Brothers co-star, Kathryn Hahn, also happened to be hosting the show.
Hahn played Scott’s character’s wife in the 2008 classic, and despite the two just acting, he has admitted that he still feels bad about the way he had to treat her when the cameras were rolling.
The scene in question featured Scott and Hahn’s characters, plus their movie children, singing “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by the popular rock band Guns N’ Roses.
Although the family seem fairly into the acapella during the scene, Hahn’s character is the odd one out with the facial expression and body language that screams ‘get me out of this car!’
When Scott’s character picks up on her lack of enthusiasm, he jabs her with verbal insults such as how “flat” her singing is as well as how she doesn’t “even look good” while singing.
“The worst thing I’ve ever heard,” he adds.
“This is $1,200 a week for voice lessons and this is what I get?”

Although the scene was purely fictional, Scott reflected on his experience acting alongside Hahn.
“I remember feeling so terrible saying those, the lines about like that you’re so flat and stuff,” he told Hahn while she was hosting the Jimmy Kimmel Live show.
He added that they had to act out that scene “all day”.
“I just felt like such an a**hole saying that over and over,” he added.
Hahn jokingly responded that she was fine about the whole thing as she “became numb” to the insults after a while, which Scott used as a comparison to how her character must have felt.
The plot of their toxic marriage was in order to push Hahn’s character to fall for Will Ferrell’s step-brother Dale, played by John C. Reilly in the movie.
Although she pines after him throughout the majority of the movie, Reilly’s Dale tries to prevent it.
Scott and Hahn went on to reminisce on their time filming the awkward scene, revealing that Scott was the only actor in the car who wasn’t actually singing for real.
“You guys were singing live,” he said.
He went on to say how “terrifyingly good” Hahn and the child actors were at singing, but how he couldn’t “carry a tune at all”.
“We had a guy, a ringer, singing for me,” he admitted.
“I was lip-syncing to someone that was singing live right outside the [window],” he added.
“He was dressed as a boy band, like he had just walked out of a video,” Hahn joked.
He then joked that “it was Justin Timberlake.”
