After making his acting return in the 2022 film The Whale, Brendan Fraser recaptured the heart of Hollywood and fans alike.
Winning the Oscar for Best Actor as his character Charlie, Fraser shared how he felt playing a character he was unfamiliar with.
“I didn’t feel scared. I felt – I don’t know – energized. I felt enthusiastic. I felt like: ‘That’s going to be a good challenge. That’s new. I haven’t seen that before.’ I felt really inspired.”
Fraser’s newest role has him starring alongside Andrew Scott (Sherlock and All of Us Strangers), in the UK-set thriller.
Pressure, to be directed by Anthony Maras (Hotel Mumbai) is UK-based and influenced by the true story of the days leading up to D-Day.
The logline for the film reads: “In the seventy-two hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element — the British weather.”
With Scott to play the lead role of Britain’s chief meteorological officer James Stagg, Fraser has been appointed the role of Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The synopsis explains that Stagg’s character is called up “to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership.”
“The wrong conditions could devastate the largest ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on.”
Fraser’s character is just as crucial as he is only accompanied by his “trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower.”
This new war thriller leaves “the fate of the war and the lives of millions [to] hang in the balance.”
Pressure has not released a date as of writing for it to hit theatres.
Fraser is also set to star in the upcoming action comedy Brothers directed by Max Barbakow.
Starring alongside Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage, the film is set to release on October 11th 2024 in theatres before releasing on Amazon Prime Video on October 17th.
