Netflix is officially releasing the second season of Monster later this year.

The first instalment of the series focused on Jeffrey Dahmer, played by X-Men and American Horror Story star Evan Peters, while the upcoming season will focus on new killers.

Although first announced as a limited series, it was soon followed by an announcement that creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan would bring more true crime biopics to life.

Diving back into the true crime of the 1990s, Murphy and Brennan’s upcoming second season of their Monster series will focus on yet another high-profile US case.

Although it was originally expected that each season would focus on one killer, season 2 will tell the events of two killers who took the world by storm.

The second season of the confirmed anthology series has been titled, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

American brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez became infamous when they became suspects in the 1989 case in which both of their parents were murdered.

The Monster series will cover the true crime story where the two brothers fatally shot both of their parents, José and Mary Louise Menéndez in their Beverly Hills home.

During their court case, the brothers stated that years of sexual, emotional and physical abuse was the reasoning behind their brutal acts.

However, the prosecution argued in court that the pair only committed the killings in order to get a share of their family fortune.

They were later convicted of first-degree murder and were both sentenced to life in prison without any possibility of parole.

Starring in the series as the parents are Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny, with newcomers Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch joining as Lyle and Erik Menendez.

Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor, Leslie Grossman and Dallas Roberts have also been cast in the upcoming second season of the series, among other stars set to join.

True crime fans quickly took to social media to share their thoughts, with one sharing hopes that the third and fourth seasons will tell the story of killers such as John Wayne Gacy.

“Season 2 is about The Menendez Brothers. I’m hoping Season 3 will be John Gacy. Season 4 Ted Bundy,” the Monster fan wrote.

“We need more shows like Monster,” another added.

Monster season 2 comes to Netflix sometime in 2024.
