The much-awaited second season of Netflix’s survival drama Squid Game has finally received a premiere date for its second season… along with a teaser.
Netflix announced that the “real game” will commence on Thursday, Dec. 26, as the hit South Korean thriller that took the world by storm returns for its second season.
Along with the release date confirmation, Netflix also revealed the first teaser for the new season, inspired by the Olympics.
The one-minute clip starts with a group of competitors racing on a running track.
Suddenly, the runners start screaming and collapsing, as the camera zooms in on a masked figure who says, “It’s been three years. Do you want to play a game?”
The video ends with a shot of the eerie “red light, green light” doll from the first season.
The official description of Squid Game reads, “Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae) is still determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their cruel sport.”
“Using his fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun begins his quest in the most obvious place: looking for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway.”
Netflix also confirmed that Squid Game will return for a third and final season in 2025.
In addition to Lee Jung-jae, the returning cast members for season two include Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo.
They are joined by new cast members Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.
Squid Game is set to return for its second season on Netflix on December 26, 2024.
