Dune star Rebecca Ferguson has officially joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming Peaky Blinders movie.

Deadline has reported that Ferguson has been cast in an undisclosed role opposite Cillian Murphy.

In June, Netflix announced a new Peaky Blinders film adaptation that will see Oscar winner Cillian Murphy reprising his iconic role as Tommy Shelby, the leader of the notorious Birmingham gangster family.

The film  has been penned by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders. Tom Harper, who also directed episodes of the show, will be directing the film.

Although plot details for the Netflix film are kept under lock and key, Knight has previously teased that the story would unfold during World War II.

He also expressed his excitement about the project, “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”

Filming on the project is scheduled to start around September this year.

Rebecca Ferguson is perhaps best known for her role as Lady Jessica in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and its sequel Dune: Part Two.

She also gained prominence for starring alongside Tom Cruise in three weeksfilms, including last summer’s Dead Reckoning – Part One

Ferguson recently finished filming MGM Studios’ sci-fi thriller Mercy opposite Chris Pratt.

Netflix’s Peaky Blinders movie does not yet have a release date yet.
