One Chelsea player now looks like he has got the all clear to represent his nation at the upcoming Olympic games.

The tournament, taking place in Paris later this summer, follows both the European Championships and Copa America, where a number of Chelsea players are set to take part in.

One of those who took extra precautions in order to be fit for the tournament was Enzo Fernandez, who was not present for the last few games of the Blues’ season.

He decided surgery was the best course of action after playing for a number of weeks through injury, and instead prioritised featuring for the World Cup winners this summer at the Copa America.

His passion to play for Argentina goes further than that too, with him reportedly pushing to be allowed to feature in the Olympics afterwards.

However, it was claimed that Enzo Maresca had plans to intergrate him into pre-season training as soon as possible, with him being key to the system change he is looking to bring to Stamford Bridge.

For this reason, it is unlikely that he is going to be allowed to compete, however this doesn’t seem to be the same for everyone.

Lesley Ugochukwu to take part in the Olympics

France, the hosts of the competition, announced their squad on Twitter for the upcoming games, and youngster Lesley Ugochukwu was included in the squad.

The midfielder joined the club for £23m last summer, and he began to see minutes on a fairly regular basis before an injury basically brought his season to an early end before 2024 came around.

Andrey Santos returning to Chelsea

It could be percieved that manager at the time Mauricio Pochettino’s desire to have a more physical presence in the middle of the park was behind his frequent inclusion in the squad.

With Andrey Santos returning to the squad and the potential for more additions in the transfer market, it remains to be seen if opportunities remain for Ugochukwu next season.
