Chelsea central defender Tosin Adarabioyo has been speaking about life under Enzo Maresca so far.

Tosin Adarabioyo, who joined Chelsea from Fulham earlier this summer, and the rest of his team-mates have had a couple of weeks now to work with the new Chelsea manager.

The 26-year-old is hoping to make a good early impression, with the Blues not being short of centre-back options.

Adarabioyo will have to compete against the likes of Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana for a spot in the team this upcoming season, while there is still a chance that Chelsea sign another centre-back before the transfer window closes.

Nottingham Forest’s Murillo remains a target for Chelsea despite the club already possessing plenty of centre-halves, including Adarabioyo.

Tosin Adarabioyo on life under Enzo Maresca so far

Adarabioyo seems to be really enjoying working under Maresca at this moment in time.

According to the former Fulham man, the Italian has been demanding a lot of the Chelsea defenders at the club’s Cobham training ground, making them the focal point of the team.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Adarabioyo said: “I’ve enjoyed my first few weeks. We are working hard and learning the way the manager wants us to play. We have spent time focusing on that while doing the physical work.

“It’s great because he is asking a lot of me and the other defenders. It starts with the central defenders and the goalkeeper; we are the focal point.”

Tosin Adarabioyo can be a useful player for Chelsea

Adarabioyo may not start every game at Chelsea, with Maresca having so many central defensive options in his squad at present.

However, the former England youth international could still prove to be quite a useful asset. One thing that he has going for him is height.

Adarabioyo stands at 6 ft 5 and, as a result, is pretty dominant in the air. As per FBref, he has ranked in the 88th percentile for aerials won among his positional peers over the last year. It makes him perfect for the end of games where Chelsea are having to deal with aerial assaults.

So even if Adarabioyo is not starting every week under Maresca, he could still come on and do a job for the team. Ultimately, picking him up on a free transfer is probably one of the smarter pieces of business Chelsea have done under their current owners.
