Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing one former Chelsea player who was sold by the Blues last summer.

In the 2023 summer transfer window, Chelsea had a bit of a clear-out. The likes of Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic were all sold by the club.

Only a year has passed since then, but it looks like a couple of those names could already be on the move.

Mount’s future at Old Trafford, for example, is in doubt. Manchester United could listen to offers for Mount while the transfer window remains open.

Kovacic could also be in for a swift exit, as the Manchester City midfielder is currently attracting interest from one club.

Jose Mourinho keen on Mateo Kovacic

City signed Kovacic from Chelsea in a £25m deal last June, but the 30-year-old has failed to nail down a regular starting spot in Pep Guardiola’s team.

While Kovacic was able to make 30 appearances in the Premier League, only 16 of those were starts.

He now finds himself on Fenerbahce’s radar as they try to bolster their midfield. According to Turkish outlet Dirilis Postasi, Jose Mourinho has Kovacic on his list.

Their report states that Sander Berge, Jefferson Lerma, Sofyan Amrabat and Ibrahim Sangare are also being considered by the former Chelsea manager.

Fenerbahce’s fierce rivals Galatasaray were linked with Kovacic at the end of last year.

Mateo Kovacic made right decision leaving Chelsea

Even if Kovacic does end up leaving City this summer, his decision to join them from Chelsea was still probably the right one.

There, he has been able to add to what was already an impressive CV by winning the Premier League title.

With Chelsea finishing sixth last season and 12th the campaign before that, he was never going to do the above at Stamford Bridge.

Obviously, since being taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, the Blues have come nowhere close to challenging for the title.
