Chelsea have reportedly set out a plan during their search to sign a new centre-forward this summer.

It’s going to be very interesting to see who Chelsea use next season in the striker position.

If you look at the current Blues squad away for the pre-season tour in the United States, there’s several options who can play as the No 9. This includes Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Armando Broja and Marc Guiu.

Chelsea fans are furious Broja’s on the tour. However, The Express has reported that £30m-rated Broja is still expected to be sold in this summer window.

So, would Blues head coach Enzo Maresca be content starting next season with just Jackson, Nkunku and Guiu as the central attackers?

Chelsea won’t overpay for a new striker

According to Football.London, Chelsea are ‘determined’ to sign a new centre-forward in this summer transfer window.

The report states that Maresca’s side will refuse to panic buy or pay over the odds for a striker, though.

The last thing Chelsea needs is to go overspend again on a No 9, something they did when Romelu Lukaku joined for £97.5m (Sky Sports) a few years ago. Therefore, it’s a relief to hear the report above.

Jonathan David could be superb budget option

Chelsea have been linked in the transfer rumour mill with several different strikers so far this summer. Lille’s Jonathan David could actually be the pick of the bunch.

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano told GiveMeSport earlier in July that Chelsea are interested in Lille forward David. The Blues are yet to make an offer for the Ligue 1 star, but he could be available to sign for just €20-25m (£17-21m).

David, who’s aged 24, could be a cheap and shrewd purchase for any Premier League side.

The fast striker has scored 84 goals in 183 Lille appearances, so is an individual that Chelsea should look into more extensively.
