Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia had a season to forget last term after managing to make just one appearance.

Romeo Lavia was a big-money signing for Chelsea, but the former Southampton man missed practically the whole 2023/24 campaign because of injury.

He has returned to full fitness, though, and was able to play 45 minutes in the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Wrexham.

His team-mate and new signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall missed the game because of injury, however.

But Dewsbury-Hall has only picked up a small niggle, so the midfielder should be back in action very soon.

Chelsea fans react to Romeo Lavia’s performance against Wrexham

Lavia has not played any kind of first-team football in a while. You could have forgiven him for being a bit rusty in his side’s 2-2 draw with Wrexham.

Chelsea fans, though, think the Belgian was anything but. In fact, they were really impressed with what they saw from their midfielder, taking to social media to praise his first-half display.

One Chelsea supporter said on X: “Lavia genuinely feels like a new signing. He’s ridiculous man.”

Another posted: “Lavia is a generational talent, has been everywhere on the pitch.”

Another Chelsea fan said: “Hopefully Lavia stays in the match. He’s been super impressive and clearly understands how to play this style.”

One other user wrote: “Lavia is a baller but you already knew that.”

And Chelsea another supporter posted: “Romeo Lavia is really good.”

Lavia will now be desperate to stay fit ahead of Chelsea’s first game of the Premier League season against his former club Manchester City. The Blues welcome Pep Guardiola’s men to Stamford Bridge on August 18.

Romeo Lavia set to feature heavily under Enzo Maresca

Enzo Maresca is very familiar with Lavia’s quality after working with the 20-year-old at City. Reunited with each other at Chelsea, you would now expect Lavia to get a lot of game time under the Italian.

It has been reported that Maresca already sees Lavia as key as the new Chelsea manager aims to get the Blues back into the Champions League.

It will not be easy, but that has to be the club’s main goal for the upcoming season. And if they can keep the likes of Lavia, Christopher Nkunku and Reece James all fit, then maybe Chelsea will be able to achieve it.
