Cole Palmer has been simply amazing since his move to Chelsea last summer, breaking and setting so many individual records along the way.

There were some question marks when Chelsea signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City in the summer of 2023, but it’s turned out to be one of the club’s best transfers in recent memory.

Speaking via talkSPORT in May, Ally McCoist named Palmer the most improved, when discussing players in the Premier League last season.

He ended up with 25 goals and 15 assists in 45 Blues appearances across all competitions in a remarkable debut year at Stamford Bridge.

Cole Palmer is the top performer in Europe’s top five leagues

Palmer’s 2023/24 campaign was superb as a whole, but he really kicked into the highest gear during the second half of it. Therefore, the statistic below about him is perhaps not the most surprising.

WhoScored claims via X that Chelsea talisman Palmer is the highest rated player in Europe’s top five leagues since the beginning of 2024. That’s with an incredibly high average rating of 7.89.

If you’re looking for even more reasons to be optimistic, a report by The Telegraph said that Chelsea think Palmer could improve under Enzo Maresca.

The 22-year-old playmaker is yet to join up with the Blues for pre-season because he helped England finish runners-up this summer at Euro 2024. You can be sure the excitement within the fanbase will dial up a few levels when he’s back with the squad, though.

Chelsea may have finally replaced Eden Hazard

It’ll take quite a bit longer for Palmer to reach the levels of former Chelsea great Eden Hazard, but there’s no doubt he started to fill that void last year. His next objective is to follow it up in the 2024/25 campaign.

Chelsea have desperately missed an individual with truly world-class attacking abilities since Hazard, who’s now retired, left the club in 2019.

The way that Palmer carried the team on his back at times last year was a throwback to what the Belgian wizard used to do.
