Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has been speaking about Cole Palmer after his impact at Euro 2024 and in the Premier League last season.

Cole Palmer did not start one game for England at the Euros but still managed to make things happen in Germany.

It was the Chelsea attacker who scored the Three Lions’ goal in their 2-1 defeat to Spain in the final.

At club level, Palmer was also fantastic. In 33 Premier League outings for Chelsea, he scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists.

Discussing who he would rather have at Chelsea, former Blues defender Jason Cundy picked Palmer over Phil Foden.

Tony Cascarino on Cole Palmer

Cascarino has been quick to praise Palmer, hailing him as the “outstanding player” for Chelsea last season.

And compared to others, Cascarino thinks the Englishman just has so much more confidence.

Speaking about Palmer on talkSPORT, he said: “The thing about Palmer that’s different from most players I have seen is he has got a real confidence and not in a bad way. He is so sure about what he’s doing. He has gone to Chelsea and it’s like a breeze.

“He has just come in, he has settled in, he has played great football from day one, he has been Chelsea’s outstanding player of the season. He has done everything.”

Chelsea are convinced that Palmer can get even better, which is worrying if you are one of the Blues’ Premier League rivals.

Cole Palmer’s confidence

Since establishing himself as a first-team player at Chelsea, Palmer has not shied away from anything really.

He has taken some high-pressure penalties for both Chelsea and England now, not missing any of them yet.

Simply put, the former Manchester City player certainly is someone with a lot of confidence. New Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will now be looking to harness that and hoping that Palmer can maintain the form he showed last season.

Do that, and perhaps Maresca and his side will be able to qualify for the Champions League. Others will also need to step up as well, though.

Chelsea cannot afford to rely solely on Palmer for another season. They did that last term and just about managed to scrape sixth place, which did not even get them a Europa League spot in the end following Manchester United’s victory in the FA Cup final.
