Widely considered as the greatest men’s breaststroke swimmer in history, Team GB’s Adam Peaty boasts three gold medal, eight world titles and a string of world records.

The 29-year-old shot to Olympic stardom back in 2016, during the Rio Olympics where he claimed his first medal, a gold in the men’s 100m breaststroke, becoming the first British male Olympics swimming champion since 1988.

His appearance has changed significantly from his first Olympics in Rio to now as the Englishman was once a blank canvas as opposed to now, where he is covered in tattoos.

Tattoos have become increasingly popular among some of the world’s top performing athletes and many use body art to symbolise their successes in their respective sport.

Peaty is no different as he has a number of tattoos inked across his body, each with a special meaning to the British swimmer. Here is how many tattoos Adam Peaty has and what they mean.

What tattoos does Adam Peaty have?

The subtle yet distinct ‘H’ tattoo

One of Peaty’s smaller and more subtle tattoos is the ‘H’ he has tattooed in the centre of the chest.

The subtle, dainty tattoo is a tribute to his current girlfriend Holly Ramsay.

Holly who is the daughter of TV chef Gordon Ramsay met the Gold medallist winner following his appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, where he competed alongside her sister Tilly.

Holly also has a subtle tattoo dedicated to Peaty, a small ‘A’ symbol behind the back of her ear.

Peaty’s religious tattoos

Two of Peaty more prominent tattoos are located lower down on the star athletes front.

The 29-year-old has a pretty large cross, with the phrase ‘into the light’ located in the centre of his torso.

The tattoos symbolise his connection to his faith, which came about after a spiritual awakening following a troubling few years with his mental health and struggles with alcohol.

Lion tattoo

The first of Peaty’s tattoos which pay tribute to his Olympic successes is the giant lion located on his left shoulder.

The Gold medallist got his impressive piece of ink in recognition of his first Olympic gold medal which he claimed back at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The stunning black and grey mural of the lion includes the roman numeral XXVI inscribed under it, which translated to 2016, a nod to the year he won his very first Olympic medal and set a new world-record in the 100m breaststroke men’s event.

Going further down his left arm, the theme of the Olympics and water continues with a striking image of the Greek God Poseidon.

Poseidon, the God of the Sea in Greek mythology represents Peaty’s connection with the water. The piece also includes the words ‘Courage, Integrity, and Belief’ worked into the piece.
