A NSW Police spokeswoman said the body had been found nearby at Kiffins Bay.

‘While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the 16-year-old boy,’ she said.

Jack had been fishing with a friend when their boat was hit by a wave forcing the pair overboard.

Two men swam to their aid and managed to pull one of the boys to shore.

They then swam back into the water to try and rescue Jack but couldn’t find the 16-year-old.

Victoria’s State Emergency Service, Centre for Maritime Safety NSW, NSW Police and Victoria Police worked together to find the missing boy.

Victoria Police Senior Sergeant Nathan Ractliffe said windy weather conditions had made the search difficult.

Both boys are understood to be from Shepparton and to have travelled the 80km to Yarrawonga.

Mr Bird was working as an apprentice before the tragic incident unfolded.
