Louis Saha believes Manchester United need to sign Sofyan Amrabat to provide something no other player in the squad has.
talkSPORT understands that Amrabat is hopeful of joining the Red Devils from Fiorentina this summer.
That could all depend on whether United can sell Fred, with both Fulham and Galatasaray linked with the Brazil midfielder.
Erik ten Hag wants the Morocco World Cup star at Old Trafford and would likely be his fourth summer signing.
Mason Mount and Andre Onana have already signed, with Rasmus Hojlund expected to be confirmed shortly, before the club will likely turn to Amrabat.
Former United striker Saha thinks United will need the 26-year-old’s energy in midfielder this coming season.
“Manchester United could benefit from the addition of another midfielder because you hear rumours that Fred or Scott McTominay could leave the club this summer,” Saha told Betfred.
“You definitely need to have two defensive midfielders in your squad, so if Fred or Scott do leave this summer, then you’re going to have to bring another player in. Marcel Sabitzer also left the club in the summer as well.
“Amrabat is a player that I really like and he’s got a great intensity level that I don’t believe is matched. It would be exciting to see him at Manchester United and he would improve the overall balance of the squad.
“We need legs, we need energy and we need strength that can help us upset teams. Mason Mount is another player that can provide the team with more energy as he’s one of those footballers that runs eleven kilometres a game.”
Manchester United still have pre-season friendlies with Lyon and Atletico Madrid before starting their season at home to Wolves on August 14.
