A fan was spotted in the stands at England’s World Cup group match against China saying ‘Lauren James is better than Reece James’.

And they might have a point after a sensational half of football from the Chelsea star, who helped put China to the sword.

The Lionesses wasted no time in getting stuck in as Alessia Russo opened the scoring after four minutes at the Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide.

It was James that made the goal with a clever knockdown header that the Arsenal ace perfectly controlled before slotting past Yu Zhu before a second assist for Lauren Hemp.

But the best was to come after a well-worked set-piece that found the 21-year-old on the edge of the box.

Hitting it first time, the ball sailed into the net to give England a three-goal lead before an even more sensational strike was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.

Speaking on co-commentary, Chelsea boss Hayes said: “Unbelievable finish by Lauren James.

“Perfectly weighted pass into her path and I cannot believe how easy it was.

“World class from James to cap off a perfect performance from England.”

And with James starring, ITV spanned the crowd, they spotted one fan holding up a cheeky sign.

It read: “Lauren James is better than Reece James.”

Both James siblings play for Chelsea and are key players for the two sides.

Lauren is still an up-and-coming talent for Emma Hayes’ side while Reece is one of the first names on the teamsheet, though injuries have been cruel to the right-back recently.

Nevertheless, on Tuesday, it was all about the female James as she also had a second goal chalked off with Lucy Bronze offside in the build-up.

And after the break, she could not help but get involved with two further assists to make it a 10/10 performance from the youngster.

It means she has been involved in England’s last six goals before she was taken off before Rachel Daly made it 6-1 late on.
